快科技4月3日消息,面对当前的内存价格,博主PortalRunner决定做一个极端实验:一台没有内存条的的电脑能不能用?答案是理论上可以,但几乎没法正常使用。
实验基于一块老款华擎主板和Intel Core 2 Duo处理器,PortalRunner首先尝试了最常见的替代方案,即Linux交换空间和Windows页面文件,两者原理类似,都是在内存不足时将数据转储到硬盘。
但问题在于,系统仍然需要物理内存才能启动和运行基本功能,结果毫无悬念,电脑慢到令人发指,连简单游戏都无法运行。
随后PortalRunner尝试将显存当作内存使用,测试显卡为GTX 1660 Super。
理论上显存速度很快,但显存无法被CPU直接访问,需要经过多层软件中转,导致CPU负载飙升,显存的速度优势被完全抵消,最终因过热和性能极差而无法使用。
